As well as for the companies and businesses to the right with whom I work directly on a regular basis, through agency work I have completed projects for Irish governmental departments such as the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and the Department of Social Protection, for Cork, Limerick and Tipperary County Councils, for tourism and cultural bodies such as Fáilte Ireland and the National Library of Ireland, as well as for multinational corporations such as Bosch and Siemens. Founder James Keating chose the name Trasna, which means 'across' in English, for two reasons. Firstly, its similarity to the word 'translation' itself, which means a 'carrying across', is no coincidence. To translate a text is, in essence, to carry its meaning across from one language to another. Secondly, the word recalls childhood memories of learning a song taught to school children in Ireland called Trasna na dTonnta (Across the Waves). It recounts the joy a man feels at returning home to Ireland having spent many years overseas. Having myself spent a good portion of my own life abroad in Belgium, France & Austria, the song resonates with me & my experience. In keeping with the maritime theme I designed the website around the Atlantic coast itself, to recreate the feeling of actually being there. Sky above you, sea before you, sand beneath you. Being now in a position to provide professional language services in the language closest to my heart: Irish, makes me feel as though I, too, am returning home.
Trasna has been a lifetime in the making! I take pride in my job!
